Family
research to date has traced the Goodall's Scottish roots back
over 300 years, when 'The Motions' lived in the parish of St
Andrews & St Leonards in Fife. Several are buried in St Andrews
in the 'Motion' corner to the north east of the cathedral ruins.
The oldest tombstone that can be read is shown on the right.
Sheila's mother, Nan Stewart, still lives in St Andrews, having
moved there with her husband, Alf, from Dundee around 28 years
ago. Ian's parents, Bill and Moira, lived in Fife after leaving
Bonahaven - of whisky fame - on the Isle of Islay. The research
was largely undertaken by Bill (plus son Ian and Ian's cousin
David Wyatt) who also kept a diary for most of his life. Bill's
memoirs of World War II, the RAF and life as a German Prisoner
of War in Stalug Luft III are a "good read". |
